Providing instantaneous feedback on writing pieces is probably one of the most difficult parts of teaching writing, especially in the upper grades with SCR’s and ECR’s in the curriculum. All of our students are at different stages of writing and it can be extremely overwhelming with the STAAR clock counting down. Enter ALL in Learning!

What Is ALL in Learning?

  • The ALL in learning is an AI platform that makes grading quick and streamlined by providing different tools such as AL Grading Copilot, which supports quick grading with clickers or bubble sheets and AI Writing Workshop, with allows students multiple opportunities to practice their writing skills on grammar, structure and overall response to the given prompt.

Why Use It in Education?

  • In today’s classroom working smarter, not harder is the goal! ALL in Learning helps save time grading student work, it provides immediate feedback to students, and it helps in supporting our goal of streamlining our teaching with tracking data and growth.

  • In my 3rd grade classroom I have used it as support during our STAAR review time. All of my students are at different levels of writing and some write in spanish. It was difficult to be able to be with all my students at the same time. By integrating this AI tool in my classroom, I was able to group my students and I was able to see exactly what they needed to improve their writing. My students were also motivated to improve their writing skills to “score” a high rating on their writing in order to get ready for their STAAR exam.

How to Get Started:

  1. On the homepage of ALL in Learning, on the left hand side click on “lesson/assessment”

  2. On the dropdown menu select “curricula”

  3. On the curricula page there will be two options: by standard and by publisher. In Garland ISD we use the Garland ISD curriculum, so select the “Garland ISD” button on the bottom of the publisher options.

  4. Once chosen, select your grade level.

  5. On the grade level homepage there are 4 options: Practice resources, MOCK STAAR resources, STAAR review resources, and MOCK STAAR Reteach Opportunities. Select the correct one based on what you are doing.

  6. Once your activity is selected click on “activate”

  7. You will have 5 options which are:

    1. Use ALL in Response

    2. Scan Bubble Sheet

    3. Manual Grading

    4. Post to Student Portal

    5. AI Writing Workshop

Select the “Post to Student Portal” option as this allows you to assign it to students and give them multiple options to redo their writing and make corrections.

  1. Select the class that you want to assign it to since I only have one class I select my “homeroom” option.

  2. Once you have selected the class you will see options for the assessment. I always make sure that I give my students all 6 opportunities to rewrite their writing pieces. You can change this as you see fit.

  3. Once you have selected your options you click publish and it should be live for your students!

Best Practices & Tips:

  • The best way to introduce this to your students would be to have the students write their pieces on paper first. THEN they can write. This will prevent the students from being overwhelmed.

  • I would also make this a habit once the students get comfortable with the AI you can group students so that they can review their work.

  • Another practice that my grade level implemented was that we added this to our stations. By adding it to a station it lowered the pressure for students and it allowed them to practice until they were comfortable to use for STAAR review.

  • Of course with any AI tool, we can not fully depend on it. As the teacher, we have to manually check the grading of the AI, by providing a rubric for ECR and SCR it really helped our students see what the AI graded versus what is expected of them based on their grade level.

Working smarter not harder is now easier with ALL in Learning! By implementing ALL in Learning in to your classroom, you can save time with grading, provide specific feedback and leverage that feedback to grow students in their writing. If you would like to try ALL in Learning, go to Ready Hub and try it with your class!
