Hello! My name is Jennifer Cogdell and I’m here to guide you through using School AI’s Exit Ticket. In today’s digital learning environment, School AI’s Exit Ticket has become a useful tool for adjusting student learning and filling in gaps.

As educators we share a few commonalities no matter what grade level or area we teach. One of those big commonalities is the importance of our time. Time is so precious and ever fleeting in our school day (and outside of school, if I’m being honest). We are very fortunate that our district supports us by providing curriculum but sometimes we need to come up with an activity to deepen our students' understanding and knowledge or an assessment to check and collect data on that understanding and knowledge. School AI is a super QUICK way to create what we need. And although it is quick and easy to create with, don’t underestimate the ability of a School AI to help you truly see where your students need help and where you can reteach if needed.

In this blog, you will learn the steps needed to help you use School AI in order to engage your students in a safe AI space while allowing them to receive the feedback they need so that you can fill in learning gaps.

School AI’s Exit Ticket feature allows teachers to input TEKS and a lesson overview inorder to assess the student’s learning. Students will receive a QR code or code to enter the Exit Ticket. Teachers are able to monitor all interactions. School AI will alert the teacher and pause student interaction if the student makes any inappropriate exchanges or exhibits off task behaviors.

Let’s walk through the creation of a School AI Exit Ticket…

How to get started:

1. Head to schoolai.com

2. Sign-in using GISD google log-in

3. Click on SPACES up at the top and then DISCOVER

Dropdown menu displaying options: Discover, Create, Sessions. Background text includes "tutors, lessons, & activities," and "166,833 spaces."

4. Next, Click the EXIT TICKET

Red ticket icon on a white background, labeled "Exit Ticket" below. Simple and minimalistic design.

5. Then you will see PULSE: EXIT TICKET. In the box labelled Lesson or Class Overview, you can put the TEK you are working on and in the following box, write the learning outcome you wish your students to have. As you can see in my sample below, I put in TEKS 3.6A and the outcome I listed was “Identify 3D shapes.” You can click GENERATE for ME for some other options.

"Online exit ticket interface for students with fields for class overview and learning outcomes. Options include 'Launch' and 'Start Preview'."

6. Next hit LAUNCH! You will be able to share a QR code or add to a Google Classroom.

Invite Your Students screen with options: "Use a Space Code" with QR code, and "Add to Google Classroom" for session sharing.

7. If you’d like to add this to your CANVAS, click the QR code and it will create a link and bigger code for you to link to your canvas.

QR code and code "KLZ7" on a screen for inviting students to join via URL link. Background is white with instructional text.

8. Once your students are in, School AI will begin! Here is a sample from the student’s point of view. You can see that there is a “speak” button for students who struggle with reading to listen to the comment and question. Look at my practice as a student to see the interaction with School AI.

Watch how the student is guided through learning:

Text conversation about 3D shapes on a dark-themed app. Discusses cube and cylinder differences with examples. Includes speech option.

9. Now let's look at the teacher view:

Dashboard titled "Pulse: Exit Ticket" with one participant, JC. JC is unsure about 3D shapes. Interface shows emojis and search options.

It may be difficult to read in the snip image but in the right side box, School AI is letting the teacher know that the student expressed uncertainty about identifying 3D shapes. This alerts the teacher that the student may need additional support (all while School AI is providing some support to the student on the student view).

10. Need to see the entire student chat? No problem! Click the 3 dots that go to the specific student you’d like to choose and click VIEW CHAT.

It will then show the full chat on the right side:

School.ai interface shows a session titled Pulse: Exit Ticket. JC is a participant discussing 3D shapes via chat. Emoticon and text elements visible.

11. One of the best little “extras” of School AI is that if a student is off task or saying inappropriate things, it will alert you.

Teacher view:

Text blocks summarize student engagement and understanding in an activity. Includes comments on off-topic remarks and 3D shape examples.

Student view:

Chat exchange discussing 3D shapes in games and daily life. Blue and black text bubbles contain imaginative prompts about spheres, cubes, and cylinders.

Notice how School AI works to keep the student engaged.

School AI’s Exit Ticket is very engaging for students. It’s a safe space to express what they think they know and then learn as they go.

ONLINE SAFETY: School AI does NOT keep data over time. Once you close out the activity, it is gone. Note that if you need to document a student’s behavior in the exit ticket, it’s best to screen capture (snip or other tool) after viewing the chat.

Let’s review the benefits of using School AI Exit Tickets:

  • Efficient feedback: Quickly gather information about student learning at the end of a lesson.

  • Data-driven insights: Leverage AI to analyze responses and identify patterns in student understanding.

  • Targeted interventions: Identify students who need extra support based on their exit ticket responses

  • Improved instruction: Use feedback from exit tickets to adjust future lesson plans

There you have it! Quick as a cricket you have yourself an engaging exit ticket for your students!

In order to do this with your class for the first time, I recommend you keep this BLOG post open and work step by step! Or use the blog to create your own step by step for you and your students.
