Google Vids: Create Engaging Videos Easily

What is Google Vids


Google Vids is an powerful video creation and editing tool available through Google Workspace. It allows users to create engaging videos easily, without prior design or video editing experience. Key features include:


  • Templates and Media: there are a variety of templates, based on a variety of topics/subjects.

  • Recording Studio: Users can record themselves, their screens, or their surroundings, and integrate these recordings into their videos.

  • Collaboration: Google Vids supports easy collaboration and sharing.


How Can You use Google Vids


Educators can use Google Vids to: 

  • Create Engaging Lessons: create dynamic video using multimedia elements like images, animations, and transitions .

  • Student Projects: students create their own video projects, fostering creativity and demonstrating their understanding in a unique way.

  • Flipped Classroom: record and share video lectures for students to watch at home.

  • Professional Development: Teachers can create and share training videos for professional development.

  • Collaborative Projects: Google Vids allows students and teachers to work together on video projects, just like they would with Google Docs or Slides.

  • Feedback and Assessment: Teachers can provide video feedback on student assignments.

Lets Get Started

From your Google Drive, click on  NEW  >> Google Vids

1. Choose a method:

  • Use a template (best way to start)

    • Scroll up and down to select a template or File >> New Video (choose a template).

    • You can choose to insert all scenes or only selected ones.

  • Recording 

    • Record yourself, your screen, or your surroundings using the Vids recording studio.  

  • Upload an existing video or image


2. Editing your video: 

  • Click on the slide you want to edit (slides are arranged below the video).

  • To edit text double click on it and replace the text.

  • Edit transitions (click in between the slides and select the type of transition).

  • Use the editing tools to trim, split, and arrange your clips.

  • Upload images, videos, or GIFs from your computer or Google Drive (insert >> upload).

Scripts write a script you can read while you record




3. Recording a video with a Script or Voice over

Google Vids allows you to use a script while you record!

  • Access the script panel: In the sidebar, click on "Scripts" or at the top, click "View" and then "Show scripts".

  • You can manually write your script in the side panel.

  • You can record yourself reading the script. To record your own narration, click "Record" at the bottom of the script side panel. Once recorded, you can insert the audio file into your video scenes.


4. Collaborate and Share

  • Click on the Share button in the upper right corner.

  • Enter the email addresses of the people you want to share with.

  • Choose their role: Viewer, Commenter, or Editor.

  • Optionally, you can notify people by email and add a message.

  • Click Send or Share.


5.  Comment on a Video 

This is a great way to give feedback to students.

  • Open the video in Google Vids.

  • Highlight the content you want to comment on.

  • Click on the Add Comment button in the toolbar or Insert >> Comment.

  • Type your comment and click Comment


6. Stop Sharing a Video

  • Find the video file in Google Drive or Google Vids.

  • Open or select the file or folder.

  • Click Share.

  • Find the person you want to stop sharing with and click the down arrow next to their name.

  • Click Remove access and then Save


7. Share a Finished Video for Viewing

  • Download the video to your computer as an MP4 or export it to Google Drive.

  • Share the video from Drive or upload it to YouTube
